"In spite of illness, in spite of the archenemy sorrow,
one can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration
if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity,
interested in big things, and happy in small ways."
~Edith Wharton, A Backward Glance

even if it is only picking grapes or sorting laundry."

Working on the happy in small ways, working on the recognizing the simple joys...
Today, our highlight was taking the truck through the car-wash.
The kids go bananas over the whole ordeal....
especially the rainbow foam.
...does it even do anything?
Doesn't matter.
They squeal and chatter, and for 4 minutes (more or less)
the world is right in the cab of our truck.
It is the small things people.
It is chatting on the phone with hubby for two minutes...
something I know people take for granted.
Even me.
It is buying yourself 4 stems of sweat peas at the grocery store
and putting them in a gorgeous vase from a gorgeous friend, just because.
Paige thought the whole thing was silly....buying "YOURSELF" flowers....Mom, seriously.
She thought the whole thing was downright ridiculous.
She will get it one day.
I am one happy Mom as I sit here and click away with my flowers beside me.
Let us look for the small things this week.
The big things may be yucky, scary and out of our hands,
but the little things are all around us, and they are good.
What was your simple joy today?
Seven year old boys who still think it is cool to spend time with mom. Jeryd was gone last night and Logan waited until the little ones were asleep and crawled into bed with me and we watched TV together until we both fell asleep. I love that kid, and I hope he will still want to spend time with me as he continues to grow.
ReplyDelete-joy-
Holding my baby girl. It has been such a crazy, stressful, overwhelming week...and I know that we have only started this crazy adventure. It is so easy to become overwhelmed when I think of all the obstacles we have to overcome before we can even bring her home, but for those minutes that I get to hold her everything goes away and I remember to be thankful for all the miracles we have seen in the last week. You are so right Ariel, it is absolutely about the small things.
ReplyDeletei love this! it's so true, we get caught up in the cleaning and planning and laundry and day to day with or without our spouses and we forget to just notice the small things of our kids being silly or using their imaginations or buying yourself flowers! i do this too, and i need to do it more cuz it's such a mood booster!!
ReplyDeletei made a new cookie recipe, a vegan cookie recipe and everyone loved them, they're my new fave!! that brought joy to me and my family and it was healthy! :)
** on a side note, just curious why 3 car seats? :))
