car-wash therapy

Thoughts:

"In spite of illness, in spite of the archenemy sorrow,
one can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration
if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity,
interested in big things, and happy in small ways."
~Edith Wharton, A Backward Glance

"We should all do what in the long run, gives us joy,
even if it is only picking grapes or sorting laundry."
~E.B. White, Letters of E.B. White

Working on the happy in small ways, working on the recognizing the simple joys...

Today, our highlight was taking the truck through the car-wash.
The kids go bananas over the whole ordeal....
especially the rainbow foam.
...does it even do anything?

Doesn't matter.
They squeal and chatter, and for 4 minutes (more or less)
the world is right in the cab of our truck.

It is the small things people.

It is chatting on the phone with hubby for two minutes...
something I know people take for granted.
Even me.

It is buying yourself 4 stems of sweat peas at the grocery store
and putting them in a gorgeous vase from a gorgeous friend, just because.
Paige thought the whole thing was silly....buying "YOURSELF" flowers....Mom, seriously.
She thought the whole thing was downright ridiculous.
She will get it one day.
I am one happy Mom as I sit here and click away with my flowers beside me.

Let us look for the small things this week.
The big things may be yucky, scary and out of our hands,
but the little things are all around us, and they are good.

What was your simple joy today?

Happy Sunday

Happy Fathers Day!!
Lots of things to be happy about today.
Dads, painted nails, lizards, The Little Rascals movie, Risotto dinner.
Today is a good day!
Happy about finding artwork for Daddy under his pillow.

Happy about our first visitor on the 30th.

Happy about getting through 5 books and it is only June.

Happy about finding a great lemon pound cake recipe.
Read the modifications in the comments.
I added 1/2 cup of sugar, and didn't make any glaze.
We just ate ours plain with tons of fresh strawberries,
but homemade whipped cream would have been dreamy.

Happy about my legs looking reallllllly long in these heels.
camera angle helps, not gonna lie.
Trying them on for an upcoming date-night...
first one since February.
serious.

Happy about the way this smells.....
straight aromatherapy while you clean.
win/win.

Happy about making a video and getting it loaded while my kids were on the couch next to me.
Such multitasking skills today!

Get LOW!

Start off the new week right with some great ab exercises!!
Remember to breathe...
seriously.
Don't hold your breath,
and go nice and slow!

And just because I love this idea,
go look at what Ashley made her daughter
for next to nothing!
I love fairies!
I think Paige would die if I did this for her...
Maybe for her birthday...
the wheels are turning ladies!

Thanks for all the anniversary love.
We love you back!

The Man

Today is the 5 year anniversary.
Sometimes I can't believe that 5 years have passed since our "I Do" date,
Then other days it feels like we have always been together...
maybe because we did so much before we got married,
or maybe because we have done so much since then.
We have moved 9 times (soon to be 10) in the last 9 years...
lived in 3 states, had 2 children,
and have experienced more change/stress/time apart then we ever planned on.

BUT, it has created a bond between us that I wouldn't give up for anything.
He is my best friend, and I consider us so lucky to have each other.

Happy Anniversary to US!

Keep it Simple

Work Out Wednesday
....how many times do I get interrupted in this one??
At least 3.

I guess that is what I get for trying to make a video during nap time.
Oh, nap time.
I have a feeling it will soon be gone forever.
Some days they still crash for an hour or two,
other days they don't even try to close their eyes.

I really love days where they nap...
and I really dislike when they don't.

but I digress.....

Here is a random ramble about eating right.
Nothing exciting, but more of a reminder.

Hope you all are enjoying your week.

And just for good measure,
here are some favorites from etsy this week:

Babes of Sweet

Vintage Jane

Fishlegs I would LOVE this old set of books!!

Be An Explorer

Have you found any good buys lately??
I know these aren't really a good deal as far saving REAL money
but they are fun and a novelty for only $20.
Mixing things up is always good~ plus there is so much to look at
and ooohhhh and aaahhh at over there.
I love Cost Plus!

OOTD

I figured since it has been like 7 years,
or 4 months,
since I have done one of these
that it was time for an OOTD, or Outfit of the Day for those of you that have a
real life.

We went to the zoo this morning which requires a real outfit,
which is tricky when it is hotter that heck outside.
But this is what I pulled together, and it worked quite well.
The stripes hide any and all perspiration that was absolutely happening...
lots of perspiration down here in TX,
LOTS!

We packed some snacks
trekked around
and rested in the shade to munch and people/animal watch.
It was a great way to kill some time.

shorts: Old Navy
Tee: Shade
Sandals: WalMart
Necklace: sprinkle & dash (made by me)

It is Monday, and I have a little to-do list.

organize pantry
laundry
vacuum
new plants for patio-my rosemary died/fried
bank
paint nails....very important stuff
Jillian Michaels time

I think I will rock some workout clothes today,
just so I don't flake on Jillian.
I am liking the Ripped in 30...I am not ripped yet, but I have faith.

xo

p.s.
My kids are watching Jem (1985) right now....
which I had no idea was on tv.
I am dying inside for two reasons:
1. They LOVE it, well Paige does anyway, especially the "fashion"
2. I feel like I am 7 again...total blast from my past!
wow.
where is my Debbie Gibson Electric Youth cassette tape when I need it??

Dream Curls....almost.

Our Facebooked life in 2:30.

This was fun, and really fast to do! Go make your own at pummelvision.com
They pick the photos and music....
you sit back and smile! Share it with your Mom.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.
We are.

We had a fun poolside picnic last night
full of jumps and dives and kids that are growing gills!
Texas really is a great place to be a kid!

On a totally unrelated note,
I tried out this tutorial last night that I saw on
Happy Together
and although I didn't use gel, mine came out ok.

I think I will try that next time, and work on my
"technique" a bit, but for my first go at it
I think it was great.
Best bed-head I have ever had!
I did spritz my dry hair with a bit of Dream Curls by John Freida
but that was all. I wrapped it around my elastic headband in sections
as instructed, and it was very easy to do, and comfortable to sleep on.
I love the idea of curls without heat styling...so important for this wavy haired gal!

We are enjoying a lazy Sunday morning

and Olivia.

Love you ladies!
