The Spirit of Christmas

If you are having a tough time breathing today, if you are feeling overwhelmed that you didn't get your people ENOUGH this year, if you find yourself freaked out instead of honestly calm...then watch THIS. Even though I have not been to a Mormon Church in years...and I mean YEARS, I still LOVE their messages, especially at Christmas time. This one got me choked up pretty good! Merry Christmas Mommies, and Happiest of New Years to us all. 2010 will be a big one for the Wilkins...big changes...maybe another move...I am not sure, but at least I have my family and friends and God to make it all ok.

on the hunt...

Ok...time for a lil' fashion fun. I want a dress for my 10 yr. reunion (for under $100), and would appreciate a little input since I can never get out shopping with any girls, or even to any cool shops (and my husband is no help). What would you wear to your 10 yr High School Reunion if you had to choose from my options...OR do you hate my style and think I am crazy? I want it to be fun....and not just a boring Black dress. I am also one of the few girls who has kids from my "group" and two kids at that, SO I have to look hot, hip, modest and fun! Let me know your choice, or style find of your own:

#1 Midnight Summer Chiffon Dress $36.99

#2 Bumblebee Tuxedo High Waisted Dress $39.99

#3 Honey Bee Collar Dress $52.99

#4 Seagreen Romance Lace Dress $44.99

#5 The Joan Dress in Party $84.99

#6 Art Gallery Dress $129.99 I know...out of my budget!

minor changes

I had to change the look of this blog just a bit...that black background was killing my eyes. I may change it again in the hours to come, but for now I hope it is a little bit easier on the eyes for you too!

baby blankets

I just came across this blog, and feel the need to share it with you. If you would like to help your local hospital, I am sure they have similar needs.

Posted by Meryntha
I am looking for your help. Hospitals all across the country are in need of small, very small, baby blankets. In cases of fetal demise, babies are so tiny, even the smallest nursery blanket is much too big to wrap around their tiny bodies.

I know how parents feel when they are presented with their tiny baby, for the first and last time. Having to deal with a large blanket that doesn't fit, is a distraction. And, unnecessary.

If you can sew or crotchet/knit, would you please help me to supply blankets for these mothers?

Her current donations will be going to:
Arlington Medical Center
Arlington, Texas

They need 48 small (12"x 12") and 48 medium (24" x 24") flannel blankets.

AND...

Blessings Funeral Home
Mansfield, Texas

They are looking for all sizes, colors and types of baby blankets.

Check her blog for more information and an address to send the finished blankets to. The blog link is greysonsgift.blogspot.com

Always

Made me laugh...had to share! Thanks Jana!

Dear Mr.. Thatcher,

I have been a loyal user of your 'Always' maxi pads for over 20
years and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the
LeakGuard Core or Dri-Weave absorbency, I'd probably never go
horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer
clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts.
But my favorite feature has to be your revolutionary
Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to
realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I
can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing
there's a little F-16 in my pants.

Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? I'm
guessing you haven't. Well, my time of the month is starting
right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces
violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now,
my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my
husband likes to call 'an inbred hillbilly with knife skills.'
Isn't the human body amazing?

As Brand Manager in the Feminine-Hygiene Division, you've no
doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens
during your customer's monthly visits from 'Aunt Flo'.
Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and
cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying
jags, and out-of-control behavior. You surely realize it's a
tough time for most women.

The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America
is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in Capri pants... Which
brings me to the reason for my letter. Last month, while in the
throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body
and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi-pad, and there,
printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: 'Have a
Happy Period.'

Are you f------ kidding me? What I mean is, does any part of
your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness - actual
smiling, laughing happiness, is possible during a menstrual
period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit
pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you're some kind
of sick S&M freak, there will never be anything 'happy' about a
day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahlua
and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to
the local Walgreen's armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy
plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man! If you have to
slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more
sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like 'Put
down the Hammer' or 'Vehicular Manslaughter is Wrong',

Sir, please inform your Accounting Department that, effective
immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for I
have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though
I will certainly miss your Flex-Wings, I will not for one
minute miss your brand of condescending bullshit. And that's a
promise I will keep.

Always. . .

Best,
Wendi Aarons

POD

My new crush...POD
Go there...it is total eye candy!!

Chicken Salad With Potatoes and Arugula

Seriously...my mouth is watering!!! I love Real Simple!!

Serves 4 Hands-On Time: 20m Total Time: 20m
Ingredients

* 1 pound new potatoes
* kosher salt and pepper
* 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
* 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
* 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
* 1 2 1/2- to 3-pound rotisserie chicken
* 3 bunches arugula, thick stems removed (about 6 cups)
* 1/4 cup fresh tarragon leaves, chopped
* 1/4 cup Parmesan, shaved (2 ounces)

Directions

1. Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons salt, reduce heat, and simmer until tender, 12 to 15 minutes. Drain, run under cold water to cool, and slice.
2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together the oil, vinegar, mustard, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Using a fork or your fingers, shred the chicken, discarding the skin and bones.
3. In individual bowls, combine the arugula, chicken, tarragon, and potatoes. Drizzle with the dressing and sprinkle with the Parmesan.

*sigh*

Why is it that on the busiest day of your week, your daughter vomits all over the couch without warning....the to do list now reads: cancel Dentist appt., no preschool, no sewing for CLIENTS, no shower/hair-do/make-up morning, no fun, keep River away from sister (yeah right!)

Is it a Murphy's Law thing???

you did what????

So I now officially have my MOST embarrassing moment as a Mom....we were at the once a year Base Picnic, and Paige out of nowhere pulled down her panties and pooped on the grass. OH MY GOSH....first, I can't tell you why she did it. There were bathrooms all around and it was at a park she goes to all the time. There were lots of people around, but come on!!!! I am mortified, and going over with a baggie in front of a crowd to pick up crap that my CHILD left behind is something I don't think I will recover from for a while. I am seriously a wreck. Please tell me something like this has happened to you.....

new love

So, sometimes I think to myself..."this is too cool of a shop, I can't share this one with folks....I want to keep the secret for myself!"....but that only lasts a few seconds and then I think..."I have to share this with the folks...they will love it!"....so here goes....
I love this online store called Ruche.

Very reasonable prices, very cool style.
Sometimes I can't wait to go back to work just so I can blow $$ on cute things from stores like this!
